Obituary of Donna J. Ernenwein

Please share a memory of Donna to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Donna Jean (Lauber) Ernenwein on March 20, 2024. Donna, beloved wife, devoted mother, loyal friend, and loving cousin and aunt, has left a lasting mark on the hearts of all who knew her.

Donna was born in Rome on June 15, 1949 to the late Eugene and Cecilia Iwanski Lauber. On July 5, 1969, she was united in marriage to Donald Ernenwein; a blessed union of nearly 54 years until his passing on March 27, 2023. Donna lived a life filled with love, laughter, and a vibrant spirit. She found joy in the simple pleasures, whether it was spending a sunny afternoon on the golf course, engaging in lively card games with her husband and dear friends, bowling, or twirling around the dance floor to polka music. She could also be found at the Holland Patent American Legion Post 161 playing Pitch, working a fish-fry, or enjoying time with family and friends.  Her enthusiasm was contagious, and her presence illuminated every gathering she attended.  Donna was often the “go-to” when anyone had a question about seemingly everything.

Those who knew Donna will fondly recall her unwavering support for her sons, Douglas and Donnie. With her trusty camcorder in hand, she was a familiar sight at their events, capturing every moment with pride and admiration. She took immense joy in witnessing her sons pursue their passions; her love and encouragement were endless.

A true pillar of the community, Donna was deeply involved with her Holland Patent class of 1967, forging lifelong friendships, and creating cherished memories along the way.  Her bond with her girlfriends was unparalleled. Together, they shared in life's joys and sorrows, navigating every challenge with grace and strength.  Donna proudly retired from National Grid after many years as a dispatcher.

Donna will be remembered not only for her warmth and kindness but also for her endless compassion. She touched countless lives with her caring nature and was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. Her selflessness and generosity knew no bounds, leaving a legacy of love and kindness.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons: Donald Ernenwein II (Sara) of Voorhees, NJ and their daughters, Marley and Mia, and Douglas Ernenwein (Heather) of Argyle, NY and their children, Joelle, Cole, and Miles; and her sisters in law, Rose and Heather Lauber. Aside from her parents, Donna was predeceased by her brothers, Richard and James Lauber.

They say that “when you live a life of love for others and peace with your neighbors, you are amassing your spiritual fortune.”

Mom, that fortune is yours.
