William (Bill) C. Ziankoski passed away peacefully on July 17, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He lived a life defined by service, strength, and devotion to those he loved.
William was born at home in Boonville, NY, on December 2, 1933, the son of Stanley and Julia Ziankoski. He was a graduate of Rome Free Academy, Class of 1951. Bill proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, enlisting in 1952 and serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a proud member of the American Legion, a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), a life member of the Marine Corps League and a life member of the Devil Dogs.
On October 12, 1957, he married Lamoine Paine at the Lee Center United Methodist Church. Bill was also a longtime member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church. The two shared a deep and enduring love, renewing their vows in 1984. Lamoine predeceased him, and he remained devoted to her memory throughout his life.
He began his career at the Rome Cable Corporation before joining the City of Rome Fire Department in 1957. Over a remarkable 36-year career, he rose to the rank of 1st Assistant Chief.
Bill cherished the time spent with family and friends at their camp on Panther Lake, where laughter and memories were plentiful. In retirement, he and Lamoine enjoyed winters at their home in Palm Bay, Florida.
He is survived by his children William S. (Donna) Ziankoski of Lee Center and Susan (the late Greg) Swiss of Rome; his grandchildren Tim Ziankoski, Melissa Lyn, Tyler (Kelsey) Swiss, and Dustin (Lindsey) Swiss; two great grandchildren and his brother Robert (Sandi) Ziankoski of Rochester, NY. He was predeceased by his wife Lamoine, his parents Stanley and Julia, and his sister Sally (Albert) Muszynski.
Bill’s funeral service will be held on Thursday at 5 PM at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W, Chestnut Street. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 3 to 5 PM prior to the funeral.
Memorial contributions in William’s name may be made to the Point Rock Cemetery.
