William “Bill” Morgan, age 86, a resident of Stuart, Florida, and formerly Rome, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 5th, 2025, with his loving wife by his side.
Bill was born on September 20th, 1938, in Scranton, PA, to the late David and Helen (Moran) Morgan. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. On October 9, 1965, he was united in marriage to the former Elaine Melone. He worked as a pipe fitter for UA Local Union 112.
Bill was affectionately called “Chilly” by his friends and family. He was a lifetime member of the Rome Elks Lodge #96 and made many great friends there. Bill was a member of several social clubs in Rome as well as the Rome Volunteer Fire Fighters’ Benevolent Association.
Bill enjoyed golfing in the summer and riding snowmobiles in the winter. He was an avid fan of NASCAR racing and enjoyed taking his wife and children to local short tracks.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, Elaine; his daughter, Marisa Franklin of Rome; his son, William A. (Kim Rieppel) Morgan of Rome; his grandson and best friend, Andrew Franklin; his sisters, Helen (James) Sutton, Janet Piccola, Donna Benn, and Patsy Morgan; his brother, Daniel Morgan; his favorite sister in law, Sally Morgan; his brothers-in-law Robert (Linda) Melone and Gary Melone and; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, David and Thomas “Moe” Morgan; and brothers-in-law, Joseph Piccolo and Eugene Benn. He also leaves behind his close friends and partners in crime in Stuart, Thomas “TK” King and John Morris.
Elaine and the kids would like to give special thanks to Vie and Willy Evans for a lifetime of friendship and support.
Bill's funeral service will be held on Friday, at 6 PM at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery in the spring.
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4 to 6 prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Rome Elks Lodge #96 Scholarship Fund, Abraham House, or Treasure Coast Hospice.
