William Thomas Evans, age 88, of Rome, passed away peacefully at home, January 29, 2014, with his loving family at his side.



He was born February 22, 1928, in Utica, NY, a son of the late George and Vivian Reed Evans, and was educated in DeKalb Junction schools. Bill was united in marriage to the former Sandra E. Waters, on November 10, 1951, in Philadelphia, PA; she died September 25, 2009. He worked as a Quality Assurance Specialist for the U.S. Government, retiring after many years of service. Bill proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1950-52.



Bill was a caring and friendly person who was always willing to help anyone. He cherished his family, especially his grandchildren and the many friendships he made over the years. He was a 55 year member of the Masons, and Past Master and active member of the Clinton-Hampton Masonic Lodge in Westmoreland.



Bill is survived by a son and daughter and law, Steven and Gail Evans of Millington, TN; a sister and brother in law, Nancy and Ron Graves of Rome; two brothers and sisters in law, Max and Pat Evans of Massena, and David and Linda Evans of Zephyrhills, FL; a brother in law, Ronald York of Oneonta; and grandchildren, Erin, Rachael and Christina Evans. He was predeceased by a sister, Mavis York and a brother and sister in law, Robert and Laura Evans.



A Memorial service will be held Saturday at 2:00 PM at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street. Burial will be in the spring in Glendale Cemetery.



Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home, Saturday 1 to 2 PM, prior to the funeral service.



Donations may be made in lieu of flowers to either the Masonic Care Facility in Utica, NY or the Clinton-Hampton Lodge in Westmoreland, NY.
