William E. Cameron



William E. Cameron, age 76, of Rome, passed away November 20, 2013, in Rome Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.



He was born January 21, 1937, in Darcy, Mississippi, the son of the late Benford J. Cameron and Naomi Moore, and educated in Mississippi schools. Bill was married to the former Laurice Bell; she died May 18, 2011. He proudly served and retired from the United States Air Force. Bill was awarded the Bronze Star, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross and many other medals for his service in the Air Force and combat tours in Vietnam. He later worked as an air traffic controller at the Oneida County Airport. He was a member of the Lee American Legion and the Baron Steuben Masonic Lodge. He also was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed the beauty of the Northern New York.



Bill is survived by two daughters and a son in law, Valerie Cameron of Decatur, GA, and Kim and Paul Amann of Myrtle Beach, SC; three sons, William Cameron, Jr of Portland, ME, Derick Cameron of Ypsilanti, MI, and Steven Cameron of Rome; two sisters, Wilda L. Johnson of Greneda, MS, and Carrie L. Cameron of Rust College, Holy Springs, MS and 4 grandchildren.



The funeral service will be held Monday at 2:00 PM at Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
