William D. Berry, 87, of Rome, a retired New York State Trooper, died May 14, 2011.
He was born in Syracuse, NY on March 13, 1924 the son of William F. and Caroline Snow Berry. He married Elenor W. Botting on May 24, 1950; she died February 1, 2004.
Mr. Berry graduated from LaFayette High School and attended Syracuse University. He served with the United States Army Air Force in England during World War II. He joined the New York State Police in 1947 and retired as a Senior Investigator in the Bureau of Criminal Investigation in 1970.
William is survived by two daughters, Coleen Balch of Syracuse, and Cathleen Berry of Amsterdam; a son and daughter in law, Blane Berry of Rome; and three grandchildren, Nathan, Jason and Britta. He was predeceased by a sister, Betty Plumb.
The funeral service will be held Thursday at 2:00 PM, at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street. Burial will be in Rome Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home, Thursday 12 to 2 PM, prior to the funeral service.
