Wayne A. Clark, originally of Utica and currently of Rome, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2025, with his family by his side.
Wayne was born in Utica on February 7, 1950, to the late Stanley and Gladys Mills Clark, and graduated from Utica Free Academy in 1968. He enlisted into the U.S. Air Force out of high school and retired as a MSGT in 1989 after 20 years of honorable service. Wayne spent nearly half his military career overseas with assignments to Haha AB in Okinawa, Hahn AB in Germany, Camp New Amsterdam in Holland, and Wallace Air Station in the Philippines. He was awarded the Air Force Good Conduct Medal with 4 devices, the AF Overseas Long Tour Ribbon, the AF Longevity Service Award Ribbon with 4 devices, the NCO Professional Military Education Grad Ribbon, the AF Training Ribbon, the Air Force Commendation Medal with 3 devices, and the Meritorious Service Medal. He also went through the NCO Academy and NCO Leadership School. Wayne was united in marriage to the former Josephine Provenzano on April 24, 2004.
Wayne continued to serve his community and became a member of the Oneida County Sheriff's Department in 1989 and retired in 2009 as a Deputy Sheriff Civil Division.
Wayne is survived by his loving wife, Josephine; his son, Eric Clark of Rome; his brother Lynton (Linda) Clark of Utica; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Susan Provenzano and the nurses on 8W at the Wynn Hospital for their care and compassion shown to Wayne.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 1, at St. John's Church at 11 AM. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call at the church from 10 to 11 AM prior to the mass.
