Thomas R. Salva, age 85, of Marcy, NY and formerly of Johnson City and Rome, NY, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2025, at the Masonic Care Community in Utica, NY.
Tom was born in Johnson City on March 25, 1940, to the late Joseph and Anna Vrabel Salva. He graduated from Johnson City High School and earned his Master's degree in Higher Education from Syracuse University. On November 30, 1963, he was united in marriage to Bernice Maciejewski at Blessed Sacrament Church in Johnson City, NY. Tom retired from MVCC as the assistant registrar and as an instructor and worked at both the Utica and Rome campuses.
Tom was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Lee Center and a former Lake Delta Kiwanis member. He also volunteered for the American Red Cross.
Tom is survived by his wife, Bernice, of nearly 62 years; his daughter, Denise Hnelosub of Frankfort, NY; his son, Thomas J. Salva of Erie, PA; his grandchildren, Bella and Robert Hnelosub, and Zachary and Katelyn Salva; his brother-in-law, Johnny Maciejewski; sister-in-law, Louise Carros; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, John (Rose Ann), Joseph (Barbara), George, and Stephen (Virginia) Salva; his niece, Diane Salva Busko; and his aunt, Mary Vrabel.
Tom's family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff at the Masonic Home and Amherst Household for their care and compassion shown to him and his family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 11 AM, at St. Vincent de Paul/Blessed Sacrament Church, 465 Clubhouse Rd., Vestal, NY. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Kostka Cemetery, Airport Road, Binghamton, NY.
Relatives and friends may call at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street, Rome, NY, on Friday, November 7, from 4 to 7 PM, and also at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 465 Clubhouse Rd., Vestal, NY, on Saturday, November 8, from 10 to 11 AM prior to the mass.
