Stephen C. Melioris, age 89, of Rome, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2015, leaving behind his devoted wife Beverly Schuster.
Stephen was born in Oneida, NY on March 18, 1926 to the late Stephen J. and Adliza Flanagan Melioris. He graduated from Westmoreland High School, immediately entering the United States Navy; he also severed his county in the US Navy Reserves as a Seabee. Stephen retired from the Rome Air Development Center at Griffiss AFB.
Stephen was a member of St. Mary's Church. He also belonged to the Rome VFW, Smith Post American Legion, Steczko Post, American Ukrainian Veterans and Men's Club and the Polish Home.
Besides his wife; Stephen is survived by four daughters and sons in law, Sharon and Orene Gabbard of Berea, KY, Robin and Michael Yaworski of Rome, Debbie and Bruce Liseno of Clyde, NY, and Janet and John Schuessler of Salem, VA; two sons, Alan Melioris of Las Vegas, NV, and Lawrence Melioris of Rome; nine grandchildren and 16 great, grandchildren; a sister in law, Patricia Melioris of Rome; and a brother and sister in law, Lincoln and Barbara Melioris of Mesa, AZ. He was predeceased by a daughter in law, Nancy Melioris; a grandson, James Yaworski; four sisters, Betty Pryor, Elsie Smales, Helen Brown, and Laura Tyo; and two brothers, Paul and Gerald Melioris.
Relatives and friends may call at the Barry Funeral Home on Sunday from 2 to 5 PM.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 9:45 AM from the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street, and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM at St. Peter's Church, with the Rev. Philip A. Hearn officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Mary's/ St. Peter's Memorial Fund.
