Stephen W. Stawiarz, age 84, of Rome, passed away on August 31, 2026, at the Wynn Hospital.

Stephen was born in Lwow, Poland on December 25, 1941, to the late Zygmunt and Wanda Thiel Stawiarz. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force for over 21 years, with assignments all over the world. On August 14, 1965, he was united in marriage to the former Gloria J. Kiker at the Griffiss AFB Chapel; a blessed union of nearly 46 years until her passing on July 7, 2011. Upon his retirement from the military as a SMSGT in 1984, he worked at SUNY IT/Polytechnic as an instructional support professional.

Stephen was an avid collector of coins and stamps and belonged to many clubs in Rome. He was also an avid gardener and enjoyed tending to his backyard.

Stephen is survived by his son, Stephen Stawiarz Jr. and daughter in law, Lisa Stawiarz of Land O' Lakes, FL; his grandchildren, Jake Morgan, and Christian and Trey Stawiarz; his siblings, John and Walter Stawiarz, and Michael and Art Cichy; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Mark C. Stawiarz in 2001.

Relatives and friends may pay their respects to Stephen and his family on Friday, September 11, from 11 AM to 1 PM, at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street, Rome. A service will be held at 1 PM following the conclusion of visitation. Burial with military honors will be held in Evergreen Cemetery, Town of Lee.
