Stephen P. LaVine, age 69, of Rome, passed away on August 9, 2026, at Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA.
Stephen was born in Syracuse on November 21, 1956, to the late John and Sandra (Swindon) LaVine, and graduated from RFA in the Class of 1974. The following year, he enlisted into the U.S. Navy, where he proudly served his country, and was honorably discharged in 1978. He then worked for the family business, LaVine and Sons, as a painter.
Stephen was an avid Yankees and NY Giants fan, and also a member of the Rome VFW. He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing. His greatest pleasure came from the times spent with his family, especially his great grandchildren and siblings.
Stephen is survived by his daughters, Lisa (Wyatt) LaVine McNamara, Stephanie LaVine, and Jennifer (Ryan) LaVine French; ten grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; his sisters, Debra (Jack) Ungleich, Michele LaRoy, Carolyn (Randy) Smith, Linda (Alan) Davies, and Sandra (Rick) Stoquert; his brother, Christopher (Amanda) LaVine; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a great grandson, Kevin Michael Sherman, a niece, Lyndsay VanWie, and nephew, Michael Davies.
The family would like to express a sincere thank you to his granddaughter, Gina, and her husband, Kevin, for helping to take care of Stephen.
Stephen's Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at the Rome VFW, 315 N. Washington Street, Rome, from 1 to 4 PM. His burial with military honors will be held on Sunday, August 23, at 11 AM, at Evergreen Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street, Rome.
