Stephen M. Hopler, age 49, of Rome, passed away unexpectedly on September 5, 2026.

Stephen was born in Denville, NJ on April 9, 1977, to Cindy Hopler and Thomas Hopler. He joined the U.S. Army Reserves and was discharged in 2001. He was currently employed by FedEx in Marcy, NY, where he worked as a yard driver.

Stephen was a devoted sports enthusiast, especially when it came to football and NASCAR. A proud supporter of the Kansas City Chiefs, he also enjoyed spending time at local raceways with his family, including memorable visits to the Utica‑Rome Speedway and Fonda Speedway. Earlier in his life, he shared his love of the game by coaching football. A hardworking and skilled professional, Stephen built a career as a welder and later spent time on the road as a truck driver.

Stephen is survived by his children, Melany and Dustin Hopler; his mother, Cindy Hopler; his father and stepmother, Thomas and Bonnie Hopler; his brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Jennifer Hopler; his maternal grandmother, Joyce Elliot; his nephews, Cameron and Nick; and niece, Emma.

Funeral services will be private.
