Shirley M. Jones, age 81, of Rome, passed away peacefully, Sunday August 21, 2011, at Faxton-St Luke's Healthcare Center, with her loving family at her side.
She was born May 8, 1930, in Rome, a daughter of Raymond and Arla Burlingame Money, and graduated from RFA in 1948. Shirley was married to Keith R. Jones on December 15, 1951, in Westernville; he died August 26, 2001. She formerly owned and operated, along with Keith, the Westernville Hotel. She later worked for Roth Bros. Insurance and retired from MetLife , after many years of service.
Shirley was an accomplished artist and painter. Many of her paintings reflect the beauty of the landscapes in our surrounding communities.
Shirley is survived by three daughters and a son in law, Lynne Wells of Rome, Gwyn and Fred Talerico of Rome, and Kellie Jones and Jodi Swancott of Rome; three sons and two daughters in law, Gary and Nancy Jones of Rome, Danny Jones of Austin, TX, and Kyle and Charlyn Jones of Sparks, NV; two sisters and brothers in law, Virginia and Richard Storms of Blossvale, Ramona and Robert Karsten of Rome; two sisters in law, Angeline Money of Rome, and Mary Ballister Jones of Woodbridge, VA; 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Willard (Bud) Money and Wayne
Money.
The funeral service will be held Thursday at 2:30 PM at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street. Burial will be in Westernville Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home, Wednesday 4 to 7 PM.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Rome Humane Society or a charity of one's choice.
