Rudolph P. "Rudy" Wegter

Rudolph P. Wegter, age 88, of Rome, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2019, at The Grand of Rome.



Rudy was born in Muskegon, MI on September 10, 1930 to the late Peter and Grace Ploeger Wegter. He received his Bachelor's Degree in Metallurgical Engineering from The University of Michigan and was very proud of the Blue and Gold. On June 20, 1953, he was united in marriage to Ethel Varga in Dearborn, MI; a blessed union of 38 years until her passing on July 21, 1991. Rudy worked at Revere Copper in Rome.



Rudy was a member of the Rome Elks Club and the Trinity United Church of Christ, and served as Past President and Board Member of the Rome Cemetery Association and the Central NY University of Michigan Alumni Association. He was an Honorary Fellow for the American Society for the Testing of Materials (ASTM), and was an Ombudsman.



Rudy is survived by his two daughters, Jerilyn (Barry) Stebbins of Temple, PA and Sheron Miller of Rome; a son, Bruce Wegter of Sylvan Beach; and five grandchildren, Jennifer, Jessica, and Bryan Stebbins, and Andrew and Brandon Miller. He was predeceased by a sister, Jean Grudzien, and a brother, Jerry Wegter.



Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 AM at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street. Burial will be in Rome Cemetery.



Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4 to 7 PM.
