Ronald F. Snyder, Jr., age 70 of Rome, passed away peacefully, October 30, 2015, in Rome Memorial Hospital, with his family at his side.
He was born March 21, 1945, in Rome, a son of the late Ronald F., Sr and Beaulah Manning Snyder, and educated in Rome schools. Ron proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1962-66. He was stationed at Guantanamo Bay during the Cuban Missile Crisis and later received the Purple Heart for wounds received at Da Nang, Vietnam in 1966. He also received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. He was a member of the Henry P Smith Post, American Legion and an avid fisherman and member of the Bass Fishing Club.
Ron is survived by two sisters and brothers in law, Charlene and Truman Vaughn of Rome, and Christine and Gary Vaughn of Rome; five brothers and two sisters in law, Eugene and Susan Snyder of Lee Center, Garry Snyder of Rome, Dennis Snyder of Rome, Brian and Jacquelyn Snyder of Malone, and Keith Snyder of Rome; and several nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Sheri Last of Rome. He was predeceased by a sister, Colleen Snyder and brother, Harry Snyder.
A Memorial service will be held Friday at 3 PM, at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street.
