"Rocket" Ronald C. Butler, Sr., age 61, passed away peacefully at home on August 27, 2026, with his family by his side, after a brief illness.

Ron was born in Oneida on January 25, 1965, to the late Frank and Judith Curtis Butler. On May 26, 1985, he married the former Diane Joslyn, beginning a life built on love and partnership. Ron worked as a machine operator at Rome Cable and was known for his strong work ethic. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, and bowling, friends could often hear him shout "Rocket's in the House" . Rocket enjoyed playing in pitch leagues and tournaments. He was a devoted Buffalo Bills fan and a passionate racing enthusiast, cheering for his favorite driver, Mark Martin, and even racing lawn mowers himself with Northeast Lawn Mower Racing Organization. Ron was proud of his memberships in the Boonville Elks Lodge #2158 and the Lee Legion Post 1794 Sons of the American Legion (SAL), where he found friendship, purpose, and community.

Ron is survived by his loving wife, Diane; his sons, Ronald (Ashley) Butler, Jr., Donald Butler, and Aaron Butler; his brother, Thomas Butler; his mother-in-law, Ellen Schaub; his sisters and brothers in law, Barbara (Ed Stabb) Becker, Douglas (Sharon) Joslyn, and Dennis (Sabrina) Joslyn; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Lavonne Butler, Ginger Winn, and Robin Muir; his brother, Frank Butler; his grandson, Connor; and father-in-law, Donald Joslyn. Ron also leaves his two Border Collies, Ella and Sadie and cat, Kigli.

Ron's family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the members of the Oneida County Sheriff's Office and Westernville Fire Department for their care and compassion shown to them.

Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Friday, September 4, 2026, from 4 to 6 PM, at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street. A service will be held at 6 PM at the conclusion of visitation. Family and friends are welcome to remember Ron after the funeral by gathering at the Western Memorial Post 1846, Route 46 in Westernville.
