Robert Howard Dorn, age 78, of Rome, passed away on March 14, 2013, with his loving family by his side.



Bob was born on January 2, 1935 in White Plains, NY to Howard C. and Edna Steffenhagen Dorn. His parents brought him to Rome where his family ran Pfeiffer's Restaurant and Hummel's Restaurant. Bob attended the Rome Schools and graduated from RFA. He grew up on Lake Delta where he built boats for fun and met the love of his life, Betty Haynes. They were married on December 26, 1954.



Bob joined the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Amarillo, TX. After returning to Rome, he joined his dad and cousin working for the family business, D & H Blacktop, where he operated the bulldozer. He later ran Dorn Excavating and Delta Insulation. Bob worked for Bartell Machine Shop and eventually retired in 2000. He enjoyed spoiling his grandchildren and wood working.



Bob leaves behind his loving wife of 58 years, Betty; two daughters, Debby and Kevin Kay of Lee Center and Cheri Pazdur of Rome; a son, Bob C. Dorn of Rome; grandchildren Aimee and Art Simmons, Sean Kay and Megan Pazdur; great grandchildren Ryan, Joshua and Kelly Thayer; a sister, Betty Monsees of Cary, NC; a brother and sister in law, Dick and Jeannie Dorn of Morenci, AZ and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two grandsons, Michael Jon Pazdur and Brendan Stewart Kay.



The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Beth Bulawa, Dr. Chester Patrick and Hospice.



A memorial service will be held at Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street on Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at 7 PM.



Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 7 PM prior to the service.



In lieu of flowers and at Bob's request, donations may be made to Hospice or the Lake Delta Vol. Fire Dept.
