Raymond "Butch" A. Smith, 63, of Humaston Road, passed away peacefully at home with his loving family at his side.
He was born June 11, 1945, in Rome, a son of Edward J. and Eleanor Turner Smith, and graduated from Rome Free Academy and attended MVCC. Butch was united in marriage to the former Linda E. Spink, on May 16, 1970, at the New London Methodist Church. He formerly worked at Rome Cable Corp and later worked at Rome Lab, retiring in 2006. He was a U.S. Army veteran, a member of the Lee American Legion Post 1794, Durhamville Vet's Club and Rome Elks Club.
Butch was a true car enthusiast, and was extremely proud of his antique Model T.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; a son, Daniel M. Smith of Rome; a sister, Rita Carpenter and Wes Johnson of Lee Center; a brother, Wayne E. Smith of Lee Center; a sister in law, Nancy Carrier of Rome; brothers in law, David and Walt Spink of Rome, and Neil Spink of Kannapolis, NC; a granddaughter, Sierra C. Smith of Rome; special girls, Rachelle and Kayla; nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.
Funeral services will be private. Burial will be Lee Valley Cemetery.
