Paula Cignarale, 72, of Rome, passed away February 19, 2011, at home after a long illness, with her loving family at her side.



She was born January 1, 1939, in Terracina, Italy, a daughter of Marco and Maria Gazzelloni Tomassi. She was educated in Italy, and came to America in 1958. Paula was united in marriage to Anthony Cignarale on January 23, 1960, in the Church of St. John the Baptist; he died January 12, 1996. She owned and operated Paula's Interior Decorating from 1975 to 1995.



Paula loved to cook for her family and friends. She enjoyed gardening, but her favorite pastime was picking and canning wild mushrooms.



Paula is survived by five sons and four daughters in law, Alex and Deborah Cignarale of Rome, Anthony and Gina Cignarale of Redondo Beach, CA, John Cignarale of Westport, MA, Joseph and Holly Cignarale of Greer, SC, and Marco and Tracan Cignarale of New Milford, CT; a sister Lidia Francione of Italy; a brother and sister in law, Antonio and Inez Tomassi of Italy; sisters in law, Louise Tomassi and Nancy Tomassi of Rome; grandchildren, Michael, Melissa, Mia, Nicholas, Naomi, Christian, Noah, Ben, Quinn, Seara and Rylee. She was predeceased by brothers, Luciano, Guiliano, Giovanni and Angelo Tomassi.



Funeral services will be held Saturday at 8:15 AM from the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street and at 9:00 AM at the Church of St. John the Baptist. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery.



Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home, Friday 4 to 7 PM.
