Paul Kirk, 66, of Quaker Hill Road, Ava, passed away Friday, November 26, 2010. Paul always said that Quaker Hill was close to heaven and he died on the hill where he had lived his entire life. He purchased Quaker View Farms from his parents in 1965 where he and his wife, the former Lou Ann Mumpton, raised their six children. He was a hardworking, honest man who was very proud of his farm and his family. He considered his neighbors to be his family and was always willing to provide a hand or words of wisdom. He had a great sense of humor and always liked to liven up a conversation.
Paul was born July 23, 1944, in Rome a son of Clarence and Edith Fey Kirk. He was educated in a one-room schoolhouse on Quaker Hill until the 8th grade and graduated in 1963 from Holland Patent High School. He received the American Farmer Degree, the highest achievable degree, from the Future Farmers of America in 1966. He served on several committees and was a member of numerous agricultural organizations. He was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Lee Center.
On June 12, 1965, Paul married Lou Ann Mumpton in St. Paul's Church in Rome, New York. Throughout their marriage, Paul and Lou Ann opened their homes to many children and people in need of a safe happy home. They provided a loving wholesome environment to many and shared their strong values and faith, touching the lives of many.
Paul is survived by his loving wife, Lou Ann, and six children and their spouses: Paul and Shirley of Camden, Peter and Jessica of Ava, Tracy Briscoe of Scotia, Mary and Paul Snider of Ava, Katie and David Favata of Ava, and Joanna and Keith Burnett of Point Rock. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren and one great grandson, who were the joy of his life: Ashley, Che, Shane and his wife Lisa, Quade, Delanie, Kolby, Robbie, Emily, Addison, Madeline, Claire, Lauren, and Landen. He is also survived by three brothers and two sisters, Herman and Janet Kirk of Rome, David and Charlene Kirk of Rome, Charles Kirk of Clinton, Shirley Kirk of Rome and Linda Darling of Taberg and one brother and sister-in-law, Dan and Patti Mumpton of Rome. He was predeceased by a brother and sister, Carl Kirk and Betty Kirk. Paul is also leaves behind many special friends.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 9:30 AM from Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street, and at 10:30 AM at St. Joseph's Church, Lee Center. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home, Tuesday 3 to 7 PM.
