Patricia A. Major, 81, of Rome, passed away on August 9, 2026, at Upstate University Hospital, with her loving family by her side.

Patricia was born in Rome, NY on July 16, 1945, the eldest daughter of the late Philip and Yolanda (Magnanti) Gregory. She graduated from Rome Free Academy, Class of 1963, where she made friends that she would keep throughout her life. After graduating, she took some courses through Mohawk Valley Community College before accepting a position with Sears Roebuck & Co., in Rome.

On October 12, 1974 she was married to Martin Major, a union of almost 52 years, and together they raised two children. While their children were younger, Patricia owned and operated the Pat and Tom Shop, specializing in children's clothing and parochial school uniforms. After closing the store, Patricia received her certification to become a sign language interpreter, and continued doing so until her retirement in 2002.

Patricia enjoyed spending her winters in Myrtle Beach, reading, crossword puzzles, taking cruises with friends, and making the occasional "donation" at the casino. Her family would always joke with her about her ability to find someone she knew, or a friend of a friend, wherever she went, always making a small town connection.

She is survived by her husband, Martin; her children, Scott Major, and Allison (Patrick O'Brien) Major; and her greatest joy, her grandson, Owen Major. She is also survived by her sisters, Barbara Denison and Joanne (Joseph) Patane; her uncle, Louis Magnanti; and loving nieces and nephews, cousins, extended family, and many dear friends. She was predeceased by her parents, her in-laws, Laurence and Ruth Major, her sister, Jean Spinelli, and her brothers in law, Michael Denison and Laurence Major Jr.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of 9E, at Upstate University Hospital, for their expertise, patience, and kindness exhibited while Patricia was in their care.

Family and friends are invited to call at Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street, Rome, NY 13440, on Wednesday, August 19th, from 4-6 p.m., with a prayer service to follow.

In lieu of donations, memorial contributions may be made in Patricia's honor to the American Heart Association, Alzheimer's Association, or Upstate Caring Partners for their Crisis Stabilization Center.
