Obituary of Nelson Robinson Please share a memory of Nelson to include in a keepsake book for family and friends. View Tribute Book Nelson “Pete” Robinson, 76, of Rome, passed away in his home on Dec. 27, 2019 of natural causes. He was born on June 2, 1943 in Cortland, NY to Howard and Gladys Robinson. He graduated from Cortland High School and always wondered how the radio on his mother’s kitchen counter worked, so he enlisted in the US Army for three years. He attended Signal School in Ft. Monmouth, NJ and Scatter School in Kauai, HI. He served in Hawaii, Vietnam, Laos, and Thailand. He went to Clarkson College and Syracuse University, graduating with a BS in Electrical Engineering, and later, a MS in Electrical Engineering. He was inducted into the Honor Society, Tau Beta Pi and Tau Epsilon Phi. He married Maryjane Lamachia and had one daughter, Elizabeth Robinson Payne. He then again served his country as a civilian with the 485th EIG and the Air Force Research Lab at Griffiss Air Force Base. He also became a grandfather to Miranda Payne. Upon retiring, he became very active in various groups he enjoyed, some of which included the Humane Society of Rome, R-Cats, the Romin’ Gardeners, Polish Home, Toccolana Club, MVPCUG and TCPUCG, Kirkland Bird Club, History Club, Historical Society of Rome, Clinton and Oneida County, VFW Post 2246, Rome Academy of Sciences, and National Railway Historical Society. He also was a contributing guest host on WKAL 1450 Rome radio station. He enjoyed his marriage with Margaret Campanie and had some wonderful years with her and her family. He enjoyed everything and everyone in his life. It took him awhile to understand living, but once he did, he loved every minute of it. He recently reconnected with his brother Stephen Robin son and wife Dianne as well as his sister Joanna Broderick after many years. There will not be any calling hours per his request. A memorial service, to include military honors, will be held in the spring, at Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street, and will be announced at a later date. Contributions can be made to the Humane Society of Rome or R-Cats. Please offer online condolences at: www.BarryFuneralHome.com .
