Nelson L. Beach, age 80, of Rome-Taberg Road, passed away March 13, 2010, at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare, with his loving family at his side.
He was born June 3, 1929, in Old Forge, a son of Leslie T. and Mabel Jameson Beach, and educated in Old Forge schools. Nelson was united in marriage to the former Joyce E. Geary, on November 4, 1950, in Rome, a blessed marriage of 58 years; Joyce died August 1, 2008. Nelson and Joyce were not only soul-mates in marriage, but also partners in many things in life, such-as, enjoying playing horseshoes together and they loved playing in a pitch league for many years.
He was a truck driver and worked for many area trucking firms including Consolidated Eastern in Utica. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy. He was a life member of the Boonville VFW, Post 5538, and the Lee American Legion Post 1794. He also was a member of the Stanwix Veterans and Men's Club, American Ukrainian Club and Frank P. Steczko Post.
Nelson loved his family. He enjoyed the great times he spent with his family, on the many hunting and fishing trips to Alaska, and the "Pitch" card leagues he played with wife Joyce and daughters.
Nelson is survived by four daughters and a son in law, Dawn Roux of Rome, Judy Sadlowski of Rome, Kim Beach of Rome, and Lauri and Buck Conover of Rome; a son, Scott Beach of Melbourne, FL; a special friend whom Nelson considered another daughter, Chris Gossner of Rome; a brother and sister in law, Donald and Ruth Beach of New Smyrna Beach, FL; a sister in law, Ann Beach of Rome; grandchildren, Lisa Brown, Jeremy Bunkley, Aimee Bunkley and Jesus Cruz, Devon Malone, Paul Conover,Kelsey Beach, Kevin Beach and Nick Beach, and 9 great grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held Friday at 10:00 AM at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home, Thursday 3 to 7 PM.
