Maureen Murphy Urtz, RN, age 72, of Rome, passed away peacefully, August 19, 2011, at Rome Memorial Hospital.



She was born February 26, 1939, in New York City, the daughter of Timothy and Kathleen Harrington Murphy. She graduated from Catholic Medical Center in New York City in 1960, with a RN degree and attended Mohawk Valley Community College from 1977-1978. Maureen was united in marriage to Raymond Urtz, on August 26, 1961, in St. Mary's Church in Flushing, NY. She was a member of St. Paul's Church, Rome Home Board of Managers, Rome Twigs, Bittersweet Branch and the Wednesday Morning Club.



Maureen had an extensive and rewarding healthcare and nursing career. She worked as a Charge Nurse in the Intensive Care Unit at St. John's Hospital in NYC, and Medical, Surgical & OB-GYN services at Mary Immaculate Hospital in Jamaica, NY. She later served as a Substitute RN for the Rome City School District, from 1974 -1977, served as the Health and Nutrition Coordinator for Project Head Start of Oneida County Community Action Agency from 1977-1981, and as Director of Project Head Start from 1981-1988. Maureen finished her nursing career as a Pediatric RN at the Pediatric & Adolescent Medical Associates of Rome, from 1989-2003.



Maureen is survived by her loving husband, Raymond; two daughters and their spouses, Bernadette Jean Urtz and Marcus Rebick of Oxford, England, and Eileen Mary Urtz and Christopher Schoberl of New York City; two brothers and sisters in law, Vincent and Arlene Murphy of Hilton Head, SC, and John and Susan Murphy of Malverne, NY; grandchildren, Adam Rebick, and Molly, Zachary and Ethan Schoberl.



Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 9:15 AM from the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street and at 9:45 AM at St. Paul's Church.



Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home, Tuesday 4 to 7 PM.



Memorial contributions may be made to Jervis Public Library.
