Mary M. Engelbrecht, age 91, of Rome, passed away peacefully, May 6, 2013, at Rome Memorial Hospital.



She was born March 26, 1922, in Rome, a daughter of Andrew and Doris Kowalchuk Moskin. She attended grade school at the Quaker Hill School House and graduated from West Leyden High School in 1940. Mary was united in marriage to Charles W. Engelbrecht, Sr. on October 16, 1948, in St. Mary of the Assumption Church; he died on February 4, 1993. She was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Lee Center.



Mary's life revolved around her family and her home. She was a very caring and loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She also was very proud of her home and took great care to keep it "spotless". Mary enjoyed cooking, baking and gardening.



Mary is survived by her daughter, Sherry May and her husband, Byron of Rome; a son, Charles W. Engelbrecht, Jr. and his wife, Mary Lou of West Leyden; her twin sister, Kathryn "Kitty" Smith of Western; brother and sister in law, Mike and Maria Moskin of Western; grandchildren Karen Frye and her husband, Brian, Ryan and Kevin May, and Jessica, William, Carol and Michael Engelbrecht; great grandchildren, Theresa, Joshua and Victoria Frye; and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Susie Shepard and brothers, Peter Mason and Alex Moskin.



Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:00 PM from the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street, and a Mass of Christian Burial at 2:00 PM at St. Joseph's Church in Lee Center. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.



Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home, Friday, 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM.



Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph's Church Memorial Fund or the American Heart Association.
