Mary Grace Almond, age 44, of Rome, passed away June 29, 2011, at University Hospital, in Syracuse, after a long illness, with her loving family at her side.



She was born August 29, 1966, in Rome, a daughter of Henry and Polly Booth Henderson and graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1984. Mary was united in marriage to Michael Almond on May 14, 1988, in Blessed Sacrament Church in Utica. She formerly worked as a secretary for ReMax Realty and area law offices. She was a member of St. Peter's Church and the Rome VFW Auxiliary and Henry P Smith Post, American Legion Auxiliary.



Mary enjoyed collecting military memorabilia and faithfully attended military and patriotic ceremonies and events in loving memory and honor of her brother, Henry "Hank" F. Henderson III, who was killed in action in Vietnam.



Mary is survived by her husband, Mike and son, Joseph; a sister and brother in law, Jeanne and Larry Bourque of Greene, NY; three brothers and two sisters in law, Tom and Maureen Henderson of Rome, Howard Henderson of Rome, and Jerome Henderson of Rome; and nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, "Hank" and a sister in law, Ann Henderson.



Funeral services will be held Saturday at 8:15 AM from the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street, and at 9:00 AM at St. Peter's Church. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery.



Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home, Friday 4 to 7 PM



The family wishes to thank Dr. Richard Sullivan and the staff of the Oncology Unit (10H) at University Hospital in Syracuse.
