Mary M. Almony

February 6, 1945 — December 29, 2024

Mary M. (Woodside) Almony, 79, of Rome, passed away Sunday, December 29, 2024, at Betsy Ross Nursing Facility. She was born in Rome, NY, on February 6, 1945, the daughter of the late William and Rita (Heidy) Woodside.

Mary, a lifelong resident of Rome and graduate from Rome Free Academy, devoted most of her life to taking care of the elderly as a home health aide as well as spending the later part of her career at Ava Dorfman Adult Day Care Center. She enjoyed spending time with her daughters, sons-in-law and grandsons. Her fondness for cats was evident to anyone who knew her. During the summer months you would find her enjoying her flower gardens.

Mary is survived by her two daughters and a special son-in-law, Deanna Nason (Philip), Deborah Burch and three grandsons, Justin Burch (Lena), Michael Nason and Matthew Nason. She was predeceased by her brother Francis (Buddy) Woodside and a special son-in-law Carl (Duke) Burch Jr.

Mary's family would like to express their gratitude to Betsy Ross, especially the staff in the Memory Care Unit. Being in their care for five years they became a second family to her. A special note of thanks to Dave for always making her smile.

In keeping with Mary's wishes, there will be no calling hours.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 9, 2025, at 10 AM, St. Mary's Cemetery, Rome.
