Marion F. Waite, age 93, passed away peacefully on April 10th, 2025, at the Wynn Hospital in Utica.
Born on November 19th, 1931, in Syracuse, to the late Mark and Martha Aungier Larkin, Marion graduated from SAA in 1949 and pursued her passion for nursing at St. Elizabeth College of Nursing, graduating in 1952. On October 18, 1952, she was united in marriage to Paul Waite at St. Peter’s Church; a blessed union of nearly 52 years until his passing on March 11, 2004. Her career was marked by her compassionate service at Rome Memorial Hospital for 37 years, retiring in 1987.
Marion was an active member of several community organizations, including the Plum Branch of the Rome Twigs, Fort Stanwix Garden Club, St. Peter’s Altar Rosary Society, St, Peter’s Senior Group, Ming Twig Hospital Auxiliary, and the St. Elizabeth School of Nursing Alumni. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, and she was a dedicated member of the Sisters of St. Joseph Association.
Marion is survived by her children Kathleen (Floyd) Rivers of Glenfield, NY, Susan Bigos of Rome, NY, Barbara (Jerry) Swartz of New Albany, IN, Mary (Burton) Shelton of Winston Salem, NC, Michael (Nancy Ann) Waite of Jamestown, RI, James (Trena) Waite of Houston, TX, Paul (Mary Beth) Waite of Spring, TX, Terrance Waite of Jacksonville, FL, and John (Marcia) Waite; her grandchildren: Robert, Jennifer, Jillian, Maxwell, Matthew, Andrew, Allison (Scott), Michael, Stephen, Julie (Kyle), Kathryn, and Abigal; her great grandchildren Marilyn, Thomas, Malcolm, Danica, and Mark; her sisters Sister Martha Larkin CSJ, and Elizabeth Gensheimer, and her brother Robert (Maureen) Larkin, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Rita Stone.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in her honor at St. Peter’s Church on Wednesday April 16th, 2025, at 11AM. Burial will be at St. Peter’s Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited to call at the church from 10 to 11 AM prior to the mass to pay their respects and celebrate Marion's life.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Peter's Church Memorial Fund, reflecting Marion's lifelong commitment to her faith community.
