Marion T. Matt, age 73, of Rome and formerly of Ava, passed away June13, 2011, at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare Facility.
She was born June 2, 1938, in Rome, the daughter of James and Fannie DeCarlo Sanzone and graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1956. Marion was united in marriage to Lawrence G. Matt, Sr., on January 27, 1957, in the Church of St. John the Baptist; he died August 9, 2006. She was formerly employed at Catholic Charities in Rome and Utica. She was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Lee Center. She was a member of the Women's Club at St. Joseph's Church, the Lee Seniors and the Ava Dorfman Senior Center.
Marion was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She will be truly missed by her family and friends.
Marion is survived by five daughters and three sons in law, Maryann and Tom Edwards of Suwanee, GA, Carolyn Morrison of Oklahoma City, OK, Brenda and Bill Davis of Ava, Theresa Matt of Lawton, Ok, and Julie Matt and Chris Wiggins of Bethlehem, GA; three sons and two daughters in law, Lawrence G. Matt, Jr., of Rome, Keith and Sherri Matt of Suwanee, GA, and Kevin and Sheila Matt of Verona; two brothers and sisters in law, John and Peggy Sanzone of TN, and James and Sally Sanzone of Edmund, OK; 18 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son in law, Felix Calderon.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be held Friday at 10:30 AM, at St. Joseph's Church in Lee Center. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
There are no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph's Church Memorial Fund, or a charity of one's choice.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street.
