Marilyn H. Avery

Marilyn H. Avery, age 94, of Rome, passed away on May 22, 2025, at the Rome Health RHCF after a year and half of living in Terrace of Woodland.

Marilyn was born in Rome on August 20, 1930, to the late Arthur M and Frances Russi Hoag, and graduated from RFA. After graduation she continued her education graduating from Business School. On September 22, 1951, she was united in marriage to John R. Avery, Jr. of Vernon; a blessed union of 59 years until his passing in 2010. She was a homemaker for many years, before joining Kelly Girls Temp Service. In 1970 she went to work for Dr. Robert Alessi as the office manager and in the accounting department.

Marilyn was a member of St. Paul's Church Altar Rosary Society, and the Red Hat Club in FL. She will be remembered for Aunt Marilyn's Mac & Cheese, and her huge chocolate chip cookies. Marilyn has a green thumb spending many hours planting and working in her flower gardens. She has a fondness for cardinals.

Marilyn is survived by her daughter, Kimm (Joseph) Trinka of Rome; her sons, Paul Avery (Linda McAllister) of Jewel, NY, Eric (Deborah Hailston) of Deerfield, and John R (Jackie) Avery III of FL; her grandchildren, Scott (Susan) Avery, Brian Avery, Cody Ridgeway, Jennifer Pogozelski, Kristin Trinka, Joseph (Stephanie) Trinka, and Kristopher Trinka; four great grandchildren, Devin, Jason, Ethan, and Owen; her brothers in law, Richard Karpinski and Fritz Lewis; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Carol Karpinski; and brother Arthur F (Dorothy) Hoag, grandsons Steven J. Trinka and Cole R. Avery.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday at 11:30 AM, at St. Paul's Church. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call at the church from 10:30 to 11:30 AM prior to the mass.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and/or the American Humane Society.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street.
