Margaret B. "Maggie" Polakovich

Margaret B. Polakovich, age 87, of Brookside Drive, and formerly of Murrell's Inlet, SC, and Westwood, NJ, passed away peacefully, January 4, 2012, with her loving family at her side.
She was born July 28, 1924, in Brooklyn, a daughter of Frederick and Bertha Froehlick Koenig, and graduated from Girls Commercial High School in Brooklyn. Margaret was united in marriage to Michael C. Polakovich on July 24, 1957, in Brooklyn; he died May 15, 2002.
After graduating from school, Marge worked for the Downtown Athletic Club, "DAC" in Manhattan, for 48 years, retiring as Executive Secretary. She affectionately became known as the "Mother of the Heisman Trophy ".
Marge is survived by a daughter and son in law, Ann Michele and Connie Jasonas, and grandchildren, Michael and Christopher; a sister, Lorraine Drumgold of Rome; a sister in law, Helen Egan of Bronx, NY; nieces and nephews, Linda and Steven Milligan of Saugerties, NY, Jimi and Teri Drumgold of Saugerties, NY, Fred Drumgold of Schenectady, NY, Tina and Jon Dziekan of Holland Paternt, NY, Patricia and Michael DiMaggio, Mary Jane and Tom Caso, and John and Rose Marie Egan; and many great nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to sincerely thank the wonderful and caring staff of Hospice, especially Kathy Smyth; as well as Bonnie and Debbie and all the caregivers from Home Care +.
The funeral service will be Saturday at 3:00 PM at the First Presbyterian Church of Holland Patent.
Relatives and friends may call at Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street, Rome, Saturday, from 12 to 2 PM.
