Margaret Jane Austin, a longtime resident of Rome, NY, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2025, at the age of 87, at the Grand at Rome.
Born on April 16, 1938, in Oneida, Margaret was the beloved daughter of the late Lynn and Mary Louise Sullivan Meade, and educated in the Stockbridge Schools. She dedicated much of her professional life as an inspector at Oneida Limited in Sherrill, New York. Her meticulous nature and commitment to excellence were respected and admired by her colleagues and peers.
Outside of work, Margaret was known for her warm heart, kindness, and gentle spirit. She enjoyed traveling, bowling, and going to the casino. She forged strong bonds with friends and family, enriching the lives of all those who knew her.
Margaret is survived by her daughters, Tina Austin of Rome, and Arlene (John) Austin of Columbus, OH; her son, Scott (Joy) Austin of Yawkey, W. VA; her grandsons, Tyler (Linn) and Caleb Austin, great grandchildren, Othelie, Henrik, and Marcus; her sister, Anne Golley; and her brother, William Meade; She was preceded in death by her brothers, Lynn Meade Jr. and Richard Meade.
Per Margaret's wishes, there are no formal services.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Barry Funeral Home, located at 807 W. Chestnut Street, Rome.
