Lydia R. Herold, 93, of Rome, died on December 16, 2013, after a critical illness of 8 weeks.
She was born in Chicago, IL, on May 6, 1920, to the late Louise Meisner Roth and Fred Roth. She attended Chicago schools and worked in retail and commercial business until her marriage to John Herold in 1940. They were married sixty years. She moved to Rome with her family in 1954.
Lydia was devoted to her family and friends. She was an active member in St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, heading the Ruth Altar Guild at one time, Teugega Country Club, Grey Ladies hospital volunteers and Maple Twig. In the 1960's, Lydia co-owned the Fabric Shoppe with Mrs. Carl Bachman. She was and enthusiastic cook and seamstress.
Lydia leaves two sons, John Craig Herold and daughter in law, Anne Cassebaum of Elon, NC, and Toby Roth Herold of Naples, FL; two grandchildren, William and Vega Herold, six great grandchildren; and loyal friend, Colleen Jeroszko.
A memorial service will be held Thursday at 11:00 AM, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church.

The family wishes to sincerely thank "the girls" who took care of her at Bethany Gardens, and Rome Fired Department and Emergency Medical Services, for all their care and friendship extended to Lydia during her illness.
