Leora Rowena Caldwell

Leora R. Caldwell, age 100, of Liverpool, NY and formerly of Rome, passed away peacefully on December 19, 2024, at Crest Manor in Fairport, NY.

Leora, or "Paula," as she was known by friends and family, was born in Baltimore, MD on May 21, 1924, to the late Samuel and Frances Gardner Franks. On June 26, 1943, she was united in marriage to John "Jack" Caldwell; a blessed union of over 50 years until his passing on October 12, 1993. During WWII, she was a "Rosie the Riveter" as she helped assemble the B-24's at Griffiss AFB. She continued her service to her community by working as an LPN at Rome Memorial Hospital until her retirement in 1985.

Leora was an active member of the Order of Eastern Star, as well as a member of the First United Methodist Church of Rome.

Leora is survived by her sons, Gary Caldwell of Williamson, NY, and John (Mary) Caldwell of Liverpool; grandchildren, Amy Burdett, Lisa (Frank) Lang, John (Janet) Caldwell, Jr., Michael Caldwell, and Sheila (David) Hatcher; great grandchildren, Abigail Morgan, Isabella Lang, Logan, Austin, and Mira Smith, Joshua Caldwell and Matthew Caldwell. She was predeceased by her daughter, Jeanne Caldwell; son, Scott Caldwell; and brothers, William Spencer and Earl Franks.

Leora's funeral will be held on Monday, December 23, at the First United Methodist Church in Rome, at 12 Noon. Burial will be in Rome Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call at the church from 11 AM to 12 Noon, prior the funeral.
