Leona V. Rostkiewicz, age 94, of Camroden Road, passed away October 17, 2009.
She was born February 17, 1915, in Omaha, Nebraska, a daughter of Walter and Victoria Slaga Sotys, and educated in Rome schools. Leona was united in marriage to Edward W. Rostkiewicz, on June 18, 1935, in the Church of the Transfiguration; he died August 1, 1988. She was formerly employed in the Printing Department at Revere Copper and Brass, retiring after 38 years of service. She was a member of St. Paul's Church.
Leona is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Marcello of Old Forge; two loving sisters and a brother in law, Mary Buczkowski of Floyd, and Rose and Raymond Patala of Indie Atlantic, FL; three brothers and a sister in law, John Slaga of Rome, Michael and Frank Slaga of Floyd, and Frank Slaga of Utica; a granddaughter, Tina Marcello Yuckel and husband, Randy of Old Forge; great grandchildren, Kayla and Robin Yuckel of Old Forge; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Helen Schram and Stella Remick, a brother, Edward Slaga, and a great granddaughter, Carrie Lynn Yuckel.
A funeral Mass was held today at St. Paul's Church. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery.
There were no calling hours.
The family wishes to sincerely thank the staff of Rome Nursing Home, for their care, compassion and friendship extended to Leona during her illness.
