Lena D. Colangelo, age 86, of Rome, passed away at her home on February 16, 2014.
She was born August 17, 1927, in Rome, a daughter of the late Gabriel and Mary Porto Tamburino, and graduated from Rome Free Academy. Lena was united in marriage to Francis Colangelo, on September 18, 1948, in Rome; he died November 19, 2011. She was a longtime employee of P & C Markets in Rome at both the Spring Street and Turin Road stores. She was a member of the Church of St. John the Baptist and the Fort Stanwix Disabled American Veterans, Chapter #20, Auxiliary.
Lena was a healthy, active and loving wife, mother, and grandmother, great grandmother who cherished her family and friends, including her life-long friendships with her "Club Girls." She volunteered countless hours to the Disabled American Veteran's local chapter and loved to share fond memories of their convention travels. She will be greatly missed by all.
Lena is survived by two sons and daughters in law, Gary and Joelle Colangelo of Rome, and Mark and Gina Colangelo of Rome; two sisters, Dolly Tagliaferri of Rome, and Hilda Vaccaro of Rome; two brothers, Joseph Tamburino of Rome, and Gene Tamburino of Rome; grandchildren, Jaqlyn and Joseph Colangelo, Ashley Thompson and her husband Chad, and Kelly Colangelo; and great grandchildren, Ashton, Alexa and Carter Thompson. She was predeceased by her sisters, Florence DeBonzo and Mary DePasquale and brothers, Sam, Louis and Anthony Tamburino.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday at 9:00 AM at the Church of St. John the Baptist. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery.
