Karen B. Mathis, age 67, of Oriskany, passed away peacefully at home on March 12, 2016, surrounded by her loving family.
Karen was born in Utica on June 6, 1948 to the late Milton J. and Frances Caisse Burkhart. She graduated from high school and earned her Bachelor's Degree from St. Bonaventure University. On September 11, 1971, she was united in marriage to Jon C. Mathis; a blessed union of 36 years until his passing on March 11, 2007. Karen worked as a chemist at Conventya in Oriskany.
Karen enjoyed golfing, especially at her family owned and operated Oriskany Hills Golf Course. She also played in several pitch leagues. Karen was a devout Catholic and was a member of the St. Stephen's Church Choir, prior to the church closing. She was a member of St. Paul's Church in Whitesboro.
Karen is survived by her two daughters and a son in law, Kelley and Patrick Cimo of Corning, NY and Megan Mathis and her boyfriend, CJ Pinkard; two grandchildren, Sophia and Joseph; two sisters and a brother in law, Gail Scheiderich of Richmond, TX, and Jill and Robert Lazina of Cleveland, NC; and two Canine companions, Willow and Tinker.
A Memorial Mass will be held on _______ at _____ at St. Paul's Church in Whitesboro. Calling hours will be _____. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
