Josephine R. Dromgoole, 92, formerly of Rome, died June 5, 2016, at Elderwood Health Care in Liverpool.
Born June 1, 1924, in Sherburne, she was the daughter of the late William H. and Grace Byrnes Riley. She graduated from Sherburne High School. Josephine was married in 1947 to Harold H. Dromgoole, also of Sherburne. They were married 58 years until his death in 2005.
She worked for a number of years as a bookkeeper at Christman Motor Sales, Norwich, and later at Ringdahl Florist, Rome. She was a longtime communicant of St. Joseph's Church, Lee Center, where she was a member of the Women's Club. She also belonged to Home Bureau and worked with the American Red Cross as a blood-drive volunteer. She and Harold were members of the Lee Seniors.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Alice E. Riley and Catherine R. Tracy, and a brother, Hugh T. Riley.
Surviving are a daughter, Mary (Walt) Wasilewski of Liverpool; four sons, James (Karin) Dromgoole of Liverpool, Thomas (Patricia) Dromgoole of Fairport, David (Annmarie) Dromgoole of Clay and Michael Dromgoole of Rome; seven grandchildren; and three sisters in law, Jane Jones of Ansonia, CT, Theresa Dromgoole of Binghamton and Fay Riley of Naples, FL.
Relatives and friends may call at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street, on Thursday from 4 to 7 PM.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 11 AM at St. Joseph's Church in Lee Center. Burial will be in St. Malachy's Cemetery, in Sherburne.
