Joseph W. Gawarecki, age 80, passed away peacefully at home on June 25, 2026, with his family at his side.

Joe was born in Rome on March 31, 1946, to the late John and Jennie (Tyminski) Gawarecki, and graduated from Oriskany Central School. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in December 1967. He worked for Agway as a dairy salesman and then retired from the Walmart Distribution Center where he was a warehouse man. Joe enjoyed the outdoors and liked to hunt and fish. He was a member of the Frank J. Steczko Post and the Oriskany American Legion.

Joe is survived by his daughter, Shelley Castor; his son, Jeffrey (Susan) Gawarecki; his life partner, Josephine Sandra Casadei and her children, Tracie (Dan Revette) Casadei, and Robert (Christine) Casadei; his grandchildren, LeeAnn, Joanis, and Jeffrey Jr. Gawarecki, Karen Pfluger, Sara Fayette, and William Castor; his great grandchildren, Layla, Amelia, Harper, Beau, and Levi; his sister, Rose Lauri; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his former wife, Janet Nadeau; his sister Marion Mahoney; and his brother John Gawarecki Jr.

Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, from 12 to 2 PM at St. Paul’s Church, 1807 Bedford Street, Rome. A funeral service will be held immediately following the visitation.

Burial with military honors will be in Townsend Cemetery, Stittville.
