1950 Joseph 2025

Joseph Christopher III

November 19, 1950 — November 13, 2025

Joseph S Christopher III, age 74, formerly of Rome, passed away on November 13, 2025, at his home in Vernon, NY after a lengthy illness.

Joe was born on November 19, 1950, in Rome, NY to the late Joseph S. and Patrica A. (Irish) Christopher. He attended Rome Schools, where he was a standout multi-sport athlete, graduating from Rome Catholic High in 1969. He went on to attend The Manlius School, Syracuse, excelling in football prior to his recruitment and enrollment to Murray State University in Kentucky.

After college, Joe returned to Rome to start his family and worked with the family business, JSC Family Sports Mart where he was the primary trophy and plaque engraver for so many local youth athletes. One could describe Joe as an extremely passionate sports fan. An all-around athlete from a young age turned him into an impassioned youth coach, especially Rome Pop Warner Football in the early 1970's. Joe was a die-hard NY Giants and Syracuse Orange fan, and although his family didn't like it, he was a Boston Red Sox fan as well.

Some of Joe's biggest joys in life also included fishing, hunting, archery, and camping. He loved to share those experiences with his children and grandchildren. Teaching them, giving pointers and advice. He loved to cook and would always make enough to feed an army. He loved Christmas and would go all out for Christmas Eve dinner.

Joe retired from Turning Stone Casino after nearly 25 years, leaving behind many wonderful, lifetime friendships.

Joe is survived by his two daughters and sons-in-law, Reagan and Scott Munroe of Sherrill, Sarah and John Parker of Whitesboro; his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Christine Christopher of Charleston, South Carolina; his cherished grandchildren, Kalli and Colt Munroe and Lilly and Stella Christopher; sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Michael Reilley; sister, Colleen Christopher of Florida; and brother and sister-in-law, Tim and Kim Christopher of Oswego; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Joe and Pat; and his sister, Maureen Quattro.

In keeping with Joe's wishes, there will be no services or calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to a youth sport organization of your choice.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street, Rome.
