John F. Slaga, age 92, of Rome, passed away July 10, 2010, at Rome Memorial Hospital.
He was born November 14, 1917, in Omaha, Nebraska, a son of Walter and Victoria Soltys Slaga, and graduated in 1937 from Holland Patent High School. John was united in marriage to the former Bernice Phillips, on October12, 1940, at St. Stephen's Church. He was employed as an inspector at Rome Cable Corp., retiring in 1979, after 42 years of service. He was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Church, St. Mary's Church Holy Name Society, Rome Knights of Columbus and the Rome Elks Lodge #96.
John is survived by five daughters and sons in law, Betsy and Michael Gluck of Lee Center, Nancy and Sherman Lovelace of Lee Center, Mary Lou and Norman Pratt of Lee Center, Dorothy and James Lyndon of Greensboro, NC, and Diana and Michael Matejek of Skillman, NJ; two sisters and a brother in law, Mary Buczkowski of Floyd, and Rose and Raymond Patala of India Atlantic, FL; a brother and sister in law, Michael and Eleanor Slaga of Floyd; 14 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three sisters, Helen Polce, Stella Remick and Leona Rostkiewicz and two brothers, Edward and Frank Slaga.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 8:15 AM from the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street, and at 9:00 AM at St. Mary of the Assumption Church. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Whitestown.
