John H. McConnell passed away at age 90 on April 15, 2025, at Rome Health.
John was born on February 27, 1935, in Lowville, the only son of Robert and Virginia McPhilmy McConnell. He graduated from Constableville Central School in 1952 and earned his bachelor's degree from Syracuse University in 1957. John spent his entire career with the New York State Department of Transportation as a licensed professional engineer, retiring in 1991. He married his high school sweetheart, Connie Croniser, and they enjoyed a wonderful, caring life together.
John's survivors include his wife, Connie; his son and daughter in law, Terry McConnell and Patricia Ford and their daughter, Erin McConnell; his daughter and son in law, Betsy and Stephen Amodio and their children, Tabitha (Michael) Pattison and Tiffany (Patrick) Mahoney; his step-granddaughter, Lucianna (Jesse) Born; his great grandchildren, Brooke, Shawn, Lydia, and Levi; his sister, Ann McConnell; and his very special niece and nephews, Anita Cavallo, Ernest Cavallo, and Robert Cavallo. He was predeceased by his parents; and his sister and brother-in-law, Shirley (Ernest) Cavallo.
At John's request, there will be no calling hours or service.
A private family burial will be held at a later date in accordance with their wishes.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street.
