Townsend, Sr., age 66, of Rome, passed away peacefully, July 17, 2017, with his family by his side.He was born June 24, 1951, in Rome, a son of the late David R. Sr., and Eleanor Hoffman Townsend. He was educated in Rome schools. Jodie was united in marriage to the former Jennifer J. Eldridge on May 26, 1998; she died December 17, 2013. He worked for many years at the Turning Stone Casino.Jodie was a funny man who liked to make people laugh with his practical jokes. He took great pride in any work he completed and was a self-proclaimed "jack of all trades". Jodie would drop anything to help a friend or family member in need. He especially loved his dog, Dolly.Jodie is survived by three daughters, Tammy Townsend of Rome, LuAnne Townsend of Syracuse, and Robin Townsend of Cicero; three sons, Jodie M. Townsend Jr. of South Carolina, Timothy Townsend of Delhi, and Matthew Townsend of Rome; two sisters and a brother in law, Debra and Gene Bilodeau of Rome, and Donna Townsend of Rome; five brothers and three sisters in law, David R. Townsend, Jr of Sylvan Beach, Ronald and Janet Townsend of Rome, James Townsend of Rome, Keith and Jeannie Townsend of Rome and Brian and Joanne Townsend of Rome; grandchildren, Tara, Timothy, Brittney, Megan, Kenny, Cindy, William, Shirrice, Jessica, Abigail and Bryson; 15 great grandchildren; and seventy nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Wendy Townsend, and a brother, Bruce "Moose" Townsend.The funeral service will be held Saturday at 11:00 AM, at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street.
