Joanne D. Gaffey, age 89, of Camden, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2026, at the Eastern Star Home.

Joanne was born in Rome on January 3, 1937, to the late James and Ellen Haley Dunn, and graduated from the Academy of Holy Names. On November 25, 1954, she was united in marriage to her heart throb, William Gaffy at St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Rome, and the two of them had nearly 58 years of wedded bliss until his passing on May 21, 2012. In June of 1965, she graduated from Rome School of Practical Nursing. She was employed by the Rome Developmental Center and retired in 1991 after 32 years of service.

Joanne was a loving daughter, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend.

Joanne is survived by her children, Virginia (Carney) Hall, Jeff (Dana) Gaffey, John (Ludmila) Gaffey, and Josephine Gaffey; 12 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren with number 17 due in August; a great, great grandchild due in May; her sisters, Sister Eileen Dunn, Sister Mary Ann Dunn, Ellen Dunn, and Rose Marie (Greg) McCoy; her brothers, James (Joan) Dunn Jr., and Michael (Colleen) Dunn; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Sister Virginia Dunn SNJM; her sons, William and Alan Gaffey; and granddaughter, Theresa M. Gaffey.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at 11 AM, at St. Peter's Church, 200 N. James Street, Rome. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Monday, March 23, from 2 to 4 PM at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street, Rome.
