JoAnn C. Derrick, age 84, of Rome, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2016 at Bethany Gardens.
JoAnn was born in Ilion, NY on June 29, 1931 to the late Joseph S. and Johanna Sullivan Christopher. She graduated from Saint Aloysius Academy as part of the Class of 1950. On November 15, 1952, she was united in marriage to Leo J. Derrick at St. Peter's Church in Rome; a blessed union of 46 years until his passing on February 11, 1999. JoAnn worked as a pharmacy tech at Rite Aid for 12 years.
JoAnn enjoyed playing bingo at the casino and was an avid NY Mets fan. She was also a member of the Altar Rosary Society at St. Peter's Church.
JoAnn is survived by a daughter and son in law, Anita and Douglas Beebe of South Bend, IN; two sons and a daughter in law, Lawrence and Cheri Derrick of Remsen, and Lynn Derrick of Taberg; nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Leo J. Derrick, Jr.; brothers, Lawrence, Francis, and Joseph Christopher; and sisters, Mary Snyder, Marguerite Williams, Patricia Armstrong, and Eileen Rankey.
Funeral services will be held at Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street, on Saturday at 2 PM, with Rev. Philip A. Hearn officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home from 11 AM to 2 PM prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations in JoAnn's name may be made to St. Mary's St. Peter's Church Memorial Fund or St. Jude Children's Hospital.
