Murphy, age 89, of Rome, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2020. She was born May 9, 1931, in Rome, a daughter of the late Walter and Beulah Haven Murphy, and graduated from St. Aloysius Academy and Utica College.  Joan was an executive secretary at the former RADC at Griffiss Air Force Base, and for several years was the office manager for DOVE Photonics and DOVE Electronics. She was a life-long member of St. Peter’s Church. Joan is survived by a sister and brother in law, Patricia and Ross Deacon of Syracuse; a brother, Philip Murphy of Rome; nieces and nephews, Elizabeth and John Marshall, Colleen Deacon and Kevin and Anna Deacon; many great nieces and great nephews; and several cousins.  She was predeceased by a brother, Thomas Murphy. Funeral services will be private. There are no calling hours. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Barry Funeral Home, 807 W.
