Joan E. Duesler, age 83, passed away peacefully on the evening of July 16, 2026, at Rome Health.
Born on October 18, 1942, in Newark, New Jersey, Joan was the daughter of the late Howard and Louise (Krumm) Donniez. After completing her education, she met the love of her life, Richard "Dick" J. Duesler, Sr. The couple were united in marriage in November 1961 and shared 56 wonderful years together until Dick's passing on February 18, 2018.
Joan dedicated many years of service to New York State before retiring. She was known for her strong work ethic, kind heart, and unwavering devotion to her family.
Above all else, Joan cherished her role as a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her love, guidance, and gentle presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, strength, and family values that will continue to live on through those whose lives she touched.
She is survived by her three children, Stacy and John Lohr of Rome, Alison May of Cincinnati, OH and Richard J. Duesler, Jr. of the Town of Lee; her grandchildren, Colleen and Patrick Blush of Rome, Robert and Christa Elliott of Vernon, Ryan Elliott of Westernville, Eric Osborne of Ill., Vance Duesler of Lee, Aniela Duesler of Lee and Cameron Duesler of Lee; along with three great-grandchildren.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend calling hours for Joan on Friday, July 31, 2026, from 11:00AM to 1:00PM at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 West Chestnut Street, Rome, NY (315) 337-0055. Her funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence at 1:00PM at the funeral home, immediately upon the conclusion of calling hours. Procession will follow to Maple Hill Cemetery in Taberg where she will be laid to rest with her husband.
