Jennifer J. Townsend, age 51, of Rome, passed away peacefully at home after a courageous battle with cancer, December 17, 2013, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born August 23, 1962, in Oneida, a daughter of William and Janet Kumrow Eldridge, and graduated from VVS. Jennifer was united in marriage to Jodie M. Townsend on May 26, 1998, in Rome. She has been employed at the Turning Stone Casino for the past 20 years, retiring due to illness.
Jennifer enjoyed her home and loved cooking for her family and friends. She was an avid outdoors person who loved caring for animals, especially her pet dog, Dolly and cats, Peanut and Flower.
Jennifer is survived by her husband, Jodie; children, Alicia Aikens, Jennifer Failing and James Failing all of Rome, step children, Tammy Townsend of Rome, Lu Anne Bouton of Buffalo, Robin Townsend and Scott Wanke of Cicero, Jodie Townsend, Jr. of South Carolina, Timothy Townsend of Delhi, and Matthew Townsend of Rome; sister and brother in law, Elizabeth and Barry Jernigan of Alabama; two brothers and a sister in law, Billy Eldridge of Alabama, and Paul and Barbara Eldridge of Oneida; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, 5 sisters in law, 8 brothers in law, and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Alea Failing and step daughter, Wendy Townsend, and a sister, Sheila Eldridge.
The funeral service will be held Saturday at 11:00 AM at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home, Friday 4 to 7 PM
