Jean Trembeth Bartell, 84, formerly of Karlen Rd., Rome, NY passed away peacefully on September 23rd, 2011 at Bethany Gardens in Rome, NY, with family members at her side.
Jean was born in Rome on October 25, 1926, the daughter of Clifford C. and Laura A. Trembeth. She attended Rome schools and graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1945. For many years Jean worked as an Operator for the New York Telephone Company in Rome. On May 10th, 1947, Jean was happily united in marriage with Lester A. Bartell and thoroughly enjoyed his quick wit and wonderful sense of humor. Lester passed away on November 5, 1994.
Jean was a member of the Tamarack Twig spending many years volunteering at the Snack Bar in Rome Memorial Hospital. She also volunteered delivering food for Meals on Wheels and was active with the Zion Church Bible Study Group. Jean was proud of many things and often spoke lovingly of her daughter, and also how proud she was to have eight RFA Hockey players in her family. Jean was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, friend and neighbor - always there with a fresh batch of her famous chocolate chip cookies to help your world turn a little easier that day.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law Deborah and William VanDuser, of Bloomfield, NY, four sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Marion Bartell, of Westernville, James and Donna Bartell, of Rome, Jeffrey and Roberta Bartell, of Danby, Vermont, and Ross and Debra Bartell, of Rome; 15 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to all the caregivers at The Terrace at Woodland and Bethany Gardens who cared for her these last few years.
Calling hours will be held at Barry Funeral Home in Rome on Wednesday, September 28th from 4:00 - 7:00 PM. A memorial service will be held the following morning at 11:00 AM at the same location.
Following the service, the family invites all friends of Jean to one of her favorite locations, the Lake Delta Yacht Club at 1:00 PM, to enjoy a "LDYC Monday-Night" style picnic. Dress can be casual if you'd like.
In lieu of flowers, Jean would appreciate your support of the Rome Youth Hockey Association, Rome Sports Hall of Fame, or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
