Janet D. Schissler passed away peacefully on February 17th, 2025, at the age of 76, at the Colonial Park Nursing Home where she had been residing for the last few years, with her family by her side.
Born on April 15th, 1948, in Utica, she was the daughter of the late Ivan and Doris Elphick Houle. On June 17, 1967, she was united in marriage to Ralph C. Schissler, Jr.; a blessed union of 54 years until his passing on May 23, 2021, which left a huge void in her heart. Janet dedicated many years of her life working as a Registration Clerk at Rome Memorial Hospital.
Janet had a passion for crocheting, a hobby that brought her joy and relaxation. She was also deeply devoted to her family, cherishing every moment spent with her loved husband, children, and grandchildren. Her family was the center of her world, and she leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.
Janet is survived by her son, Ralph (Beverly) Schissler III of Ausable Forks, NY; her daughter, Diane (Kenneth) Hurlbut of Rome; and her grandchildren, Lindsey (Kyerstan) Hurlbut, Aimee Hurlbut, Nathan Hurlbut, and Wyatt Merrill. She was predeceased by an infant daughter.
Janet's family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff at Colonial Park for their care and compassion shown to her over the years.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during a visitation at Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street, Rome, NY, on Monday, February 24th, 2025, from 4 to 6 PM. A funeral service will follow at 6 PM at the funeral home.
Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, Janet request's donations be made to the American Heart Association in Nathan's name who was her little heart warrior.
